I was talking to a potential customer this week.
They’re thinking about using Datakey RUGGEDrive to provide removable storage for their Digital Video Recording system for industrial vehicles.
If there’s an incident, they’ll be able to easily remove the footage and analyse it.
But here’s the interesting thing:
Their entire system is based on a Raspberry Pi.
There’s been talk of the Pi being used in industrial applications for a couple of years now, so it’s nice to finally see some evidence of it actually happening.
If you’re familiar with the Raspberry Pi story, you’ll know that it’s pretty inspiring – the computer was originally built to allow students to discover the art of programming.
Then it grew into a hobby.
And now it’s a serious contender for a core of industrial embedded systems.
If you haven’t already, I recommend checking out the online version of their monthly magazine – hidden between the many hobby projects are a few interesting articles on industrial uses for the Pi.
I would love to hear if you are using Pi in your projects?
